“When all think alike, then no one is thinking”--Walter Lippman
I think the world has really grown old but hugely demand new minds!
We live in an age where technological advancements and creativity are at a jet rate. A period of brain-flaming wonders, almost causing some of us to meander in the maze of its wonders.
We are in the timeline of core competencies and knowledge wizardry that’s not limited to digital literacy, critical thinking and complex problem-solving but quite multifarious. Indeed, this is the 21st century! The century of witty inventions and unfathomable innovations.
It’s a century that holds massive prospects for those who will lay hold on their creative domain, explore their psycho-motive banks and secure alignment with God and His purposes for their lives (see Psalm 111:10).
The sterling irony
I believe you don’t refuse pleasure when you’re offered one. For me, I do love comfort. I love whatever gives me solace and soothe my relaxation. My nature does not in any way praise distress nor anything that breeds discomfort. That is why I made up my mind early in life that I will never be poor, so as not to stress myself in the future.
But as James Baldwin said: “The most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing to lose”. I’ve soon discovered that, to achieve my dreamed future, I must give up comfort which is the arch enemy of creativity. It is the principal cemetery of creative innovations.
“Step out of your comfort zone. Comfort zones, where your unrealized dreams are buried, are the enemies of achievement. Leadership begins when you step outside your comfort zone.” ― Roy T. Bennett
I used to envy great leaders before I discovered their secrets. Indeed, great leaders are men and women of great labours, of which none were ever carried out in the comfort land of pleasure.
I’ve found out that, while comfort is very good, it is the bane to greatness if allowed at certain stage of one’s life. Creativity and comfort are two parallel zones. Whereas the former is the zone of champions, the latter is the population of cowards and mediocre.
In the comfort zone, nothing is ever created; but at the creative zone, there’s never want of comfort at all. People who enjoy the comfort track usually end up as victims of the conquered zone. To be relevant in life you must become responsible for your life.
To get to the zenith in your chosen field in life, you must now move from your comfort district to the creative region. Solomon in Proverbs 22:13, paints a good portrait of what a man in the comfort territory does: “The slothful man saith, there is lion without, I shall be slain in the streets”.
Understanding the concepts
“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding” — Leonado da Vinci
Conceptual clarification is a key to the application of any knowledge, thus, you must understand the common denominator of this article- comfort and creativity.
Comfort, according to Oxford dictionary is simply “a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint”, while creativity on the other hand is, “the ability to use imagination to produce a novel idea or product that is useful to the society.”
Comfort and creativity can be likened to the relationship between a bride and a groom, in which the bride ultimately waits for the set time, for her bridegroom to acquire every essential thing required for her joy with him to be full.
The reward of creativity is comfort but it hampers creativity when it’s given a first hand in a any life. Creativity is the gateway to productivity; which is a sure pathway to comfort.
Let this mind be in you
“Go into yourself. Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depths of your heart; confess to yourself whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write” — Rainer Maria Rilke
Domiciled and dominant in every creature including, you is a super engine placed by the Creator (Almighty God) for you to continue His creation on earth.
David admits clearly in Psalm 139:14: “I will praise thee: for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well”. The creative power that will bring regional and global revolution is already inside of you. Hence, you must recognize it now and release it.
Your Dreams demands it
Nothing worthwhile in life ever happens at ease. If you must birth novel ideas that will transform the status quo of your family, community and country, then you must as matter of necessity and emergency depart from your comfort zone.
In life, there’s no champion without bruises; and without the use of your brain you may never earn a gain. It takes mental work to overcome menial work in the labour market.
God’s assignment for your life requires the exploration of this domain of creativity. You must not allow comfort to cripple this potential.
No nation is ever developed until her populace becomes developed men and women. Creativity is the airplane that God has made available for your manifestation and outreach.
“Creativity is contagious, pass it on” — Albert Einstein
The world needs your ideas. Please, start making demand on your creative quotient and become the change agent, that you were designed to be.
Romans 8:19 says: “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God”. Your manifestation will maim our adversities and move us to prosperity.
Signs and symptoms of the comfort district
The following are just few of the many signs and symptoms noticeable in a man dwelling in the comfort zone:
1. Adamancy to change
One major characteristics of anyone in the comfort zone indifference about the trends of the time.
” If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old” — Peter F. Drucker
Everything around us are constantly changing and it requires people that are well versed with the dynamics of these changes to proffer solution to the rising problems.
The power of creativity is oftentimes released at the point where change becomes basic.
Instead of being adamant to change, become adapted to it and watch out for the great addition that will happen to your creative ability.
The principal reason, creativity seemed absent in some person’s life is because of excuses. Do you always have a thousand and one reasons why you will not do something? then you’re already slipping off to the comfort zone.
If you continue to give excuses, soon your creative potential will exit you. Begin to exert pressure on yourself so that you can release the power of this dynamo residing in you.
3. Always avoiding stress
“You have to be uncomfortable in order to be successful, in some ways. If you stay in your comfort zone! You would never do the things that you need to do.” ― Lights Poxlietner
For anything golden to be produced, it must be passed through the furnace. The stress zone is the greatest region for creativity.
Ideas don’t jump out of people, they are pressed under pressure out of their Carriers.
Until you begin to cherish stress, success may never chase you. Stress is the refining flame true accomplishments. Stop avoiding it but start embracing it!
4. Fear of trying
“Remember the two benefits of failure. First, if you do fail, you learn what doesn’t work; and second, the failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach” ― Roger Von Oech
It is more fatal to fear failure. Creativity is a friend of failure. It often succeeds the moment it fails.
Every trial is a sure bet to great treasure, either now or later. Failing to try, is trying to fail and this could be very fatal.
5. Seeking pleasure in every venture
The worst prison in life is living in pleasure under pressure. Your creative power may never prosper if you seek pleasure before productivity. Your product is what determines your profit.
Lamentation 3:27 reads: “It is good for a man that he bears the yoke in his youth.” It is your exceptional creative power that will secure you an excellent comfort place in life.
6. Talkativeness and excessive sleep
People who talk too much especially irrelevant things don’t have much value for their destiny. Your creative mind will remain asleep as long as you keep sleeping.
Whenever you wake up it will wake as well. So many persons have thrown away great treasures through vain talking. Don’t join the wagon!
Please take responsibility of your life and impossibilities will become folktales.
Crushing the block
“Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try new” — Brian Tracy
It is time to make the decision that will determine your destiny. You have a choice to make. Stay in comfort zone and suffer for life; or step into your creative zone and transform your life and the world.
I want you to be deliberate about your choices, because every choice you make creates a chance for you and charts your future to definite destination.
Prov. 8:12 admonished: I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
“Your ego can become an obstacle to your work. If you start believing in your greatness, it is the death of your creativity” ― Marina Abramovic
Only Jesus can help you deal with the above signs and symptoms of the comfort zone. He’s the capital of creativity and with him in your life, success is secured.
Let Him be your friend today, and stay comfortable only at your creativity zone and create a world of greatness for yourself and others.
