“Stay away from lazy parasites, who perch on you just to satisfy their needs, they do not come to alleviate your burdens, hence, their mission is to distract and extract, and make you live in abject poverty” _Michael Bassey Johnson
One of the areas I love my mum so dearly is her mastery of the art of story-telling. It is a gift that God deposited in her to help her fulfill destiny and we were the platform upon which she stood to sharpen her edge. When we were yet younger, my mother shared with us so many enchanting stories, one of which was about the ‘land of micro-organisms’ in which she narrated the behavior and relationship among these micro-creatures and higher animals, especially, man.
She told us how these organisms could adversely affect our biological systems if they should by any means find their way into our body, particularly, the parasitic ones. She added that some of the micro-organisms (namely, normal floras) were quite significant in the maintenance of our body functionality.
I have been a student of Parasitology and Public Health, and over the years I’ve been able to draw some lessons from parasite-host relationships and what they could be likened to in real life experience.
I’m glad that you’re interested in reading this insightful article. Just read every single line thoughtfully as I reveal these 7 most virulent parasites that are capable of wrecking a man’s future.
Begin with this realization
It will interest you to know that every person everywhere (yourself not excluded) is a divine product delivered into the Earth, to accomplish something very great. Your destiny is that which God had predestined you to become before projecting you from eternity into time. It’s a project that had been planned by the Trinity before you arrived the Earth just to make it a reality-(Read Jer. 29:11). Your destiny is God’s agenda for creating a person of your kind in that gender.
What’s a parasite?
A parasite is an organism that lives on or in a host (that is, any animal that harbours it or them) and gets its food from or at the expense of its host(s). So, every parasitic relationship is usually with huge losses on one of the parties involved.
One characteristic of parasites which I’ve discovered is that they are never friendly nor had ever added value to their hosts. They continue to feed on their host even until death arrives. It’s quite pathetic but that’s the reason I have selected these top 7 parasites to help you deal with them if any be found feeding on your destiny already.
It’s my desire that you become the original intention of God for your creation. Now let’s look at them one after the other:
1. Lack of purpose and/or blurred vision
“When you have a vision that is strong enough and powerful enough, nothing can stand in your way” _Lewis Howes
The greatest tragedy in life, as Dr. Myles Munroe of blessed memory rightly captured is not death; but a life without purpose. There’s a capital spelled doom for any destiny without a definite destination. Your purpose in life is the blueprint for building destinies into a showpiece. Until you find your place, you may never function in your full potential
The first step in dealing with this parasite is to discover your purpose and pursue it.
Your purpose is God’s ultimate plan, assignment and vision for your life, hence it is rooted deeply in Him. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God before ordained that we should walk in them”– Eph. 2:10. You are not a product of divine error, neither a by-product of biological mishaps nor a remnant of any chemical coincidence.
You are God’s intentional creature configured to become His unique masterpiece. This is the vision, you must see clearly and walk in it if you aim at relevance on earth.
2. Laziness and indolence
“Inspiration is a guest that does not visit the lazy” _Tchaikovsky
There is no dignity in any person’s destiny who have zero value for diligence. It is laziness that births limitation and losses while indolence is the father of ignominy. You must determine to work out your own salvation and save your generation.
King Solomon captures this in Prov. 18:9- “He also that is slothful in his work is a brother to him that is a greater waster”. Where laziness exists, losses cannot exit.
Take whatever you are doing (your business, marriage, lecturing job, career pursuit, etc.) very serious because God rewards diligence with dignity.
3. Ignorance and lack of insights
“Ignorance, the root and stem of all evil” _Plato
Every man is a slave to his ignorance. My friend and colleague, Nwankwo Gideon once said that “knowledge is the key to self-liberation; absence of it is the recipe for perpetual bondage”.
I’ve discovered that, in the college of life, insight is a prime asset. “Therefore, my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst”– Isa. 5:13. God will allow you to suffer if you have no interest in seeking knowledge. Ignorance is the deliberate rejection of available information or insights.
Information remains the key to transformation and insight, the door to impact. You must destroy this parasite by becoming an avid knowledge worker. Read books, ask questions and always get answers.
Commit yourself daily to seeking knowledge that is relevant to God’s purpose for your life. Addiction to seeking knowledge will additionally sharpen your edge.
4. The poverty of the mind
“Your thoughts are the architects of your destiny” _David O. McKay
Did you know that your mind is your treasure bin and your thoughts the measure balance? The poverty of the mind is a major parasite that’s eating up peoples’ destiny today especially in Africa.
Residing in you is a dynamo capable of generating light for this generation but as Franklin D. Roosevelt noted, “men are not prisoners of fate, but only the prisoners of their own mind”.
Your mind is the creation garden of greatness and the sharpener of your destiny. Men who think poorly end up in penury. Your destiny dies the moment your mind become poverty-driven or when it’s filled with negative thoughts- Prov. 23:7.
Learning to harness this treasure basket is your ultimate ticket of flight to the pleasure market of life.
Let Phil. 4:8 be the basis of your thoughts because negative thoughts negate progress.
5. Wrong association and defective character
“Control your destiny or someone else will “_Jack Welch
You cannot have the right character when you constantly relate with the wrong characters. Your friends determine your fruits and also decide your destiny.
Mark Ruffalo said that “whoever controls your energy also controls your destiny. The wrong character which is usually a product of the wrong relationship is a parasite that renders destinies reckless.
Excellent character exceeds hindrances and expels the enemy’s onslaught against your destiny. Your character must begin to speak louder than your confession.
If you are blessed with domineering charisma and gifts, then develop your character to avoid colossal damage.
Choose your friends wisely knowing that the price tag of your destiny is priceless!
6. Fear of failure and pangs of the past
“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” Henry Ford.
The fear of failure is what frustrates destiny. People who don’t try again, my mentor told me, end up in trial. Until you begin to move, you may not encounter any obstacle. Obstacles are found only in the paths of those making progress.
Failure has nothing to do with men who faint in their journey to accomplishment. Failure is the signpost that directs successful people to their destiny.
The fear of past mistakes/failures more often than not fuels misfortunes and remains the caterpillar that crushes glorious destiny.
Please, deal with this parasite if it’s already feeding on your destiny and face your destiny squarely with great courage. You will get to the top in Jesus name. Amen
7. Indecision and self-doubt
“Mediocrity is a region bound on the north by compromise, on the south by indecision, on the east by past thinking and on the west by lack of vision” _John Mason
Your destiny is determined by God, but you must pursue it personally to make it a reality.
Ralph Waldo Emerson remarked that “the only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be”. Self-doubt will limit your capability and potentials.
There is no limit to what you can achieve and accomplish for your generation. You must decide to align with God and be God-confident.
…that you are the summary of God’s creation venture and He has predestined you to fulfill a glorious destiny in time before eternity arrives. You must as a matter of responsibility guard your destiny against the invasion of any of the aforementioned parasites. You are destined for dominion and these parasites are within your control.
